Succesful SOM2 and ´óÏó´«Ã½ME7 in Bucharest

The Second Senior Officialsâ€™ Meeting and the Seventh ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Ministersâ€™ Minister under the themeÌýâ€œConnecting education: inclusion, mobility and excellence in support of the Sustainable Development Goalsâ€Ìýwas successfully organised from 14 to 16 May 2019 at the Palace of Parliament, Bucharest, Romania. The meeting was hosted by the Romanian Ministry of National Education in conjunction with its Presidency of the Council of the European Union in close cooperation with the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Belgium. The ´óÏó´«Ã½ME7 meeting with 165 participants from 39 ´óÏó´«Ã½ partners and 10 stakeholders endorsed two important political documents:Ìýthe Conclusions by the Chair and Bucharest Statement.

´óÏó´«Ã½ME7 became another landmark of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ education cooperation in the second decade by presenting the United Nationâ€™sÌýSustainable Development Goals and DigitalisationÌýas the two transversal themes within the four thematic priority areas of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process. ´óÏó´«Ã½ME7 also witnesses the productive participation and full commitment of Senior Officials and Ministers during both meetings for the progress of ´óÏó´«Ã½ education cooperation between Asia and Europe.

These are the main results of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ME7:

Inclusion ofÌý2 transversal themesÌýwithin the 4 priority areas of the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process: Sustainable Development and Digitalisation;
Agreement on the need forÌýsystematic exchange of information and close interactionÌýbetween the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process and the overall ´óÏó´«Ã½ Process, between the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process and ÌýEUâ€™s Asia-Europe Strategy and EU programmes and between ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education and other multilateral cooperation programmes;
Agreement on the need forÌýbetter visibilityÌýof the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process: both within the overall ´óÏó´«Ã½ process as within the field multilateral cooperation;
Continuous efforts and support of ´óÏó´«Ã½ partners and stakeholders to implement initiatives under the four thematic priority areas:Ìý further implementation of existing 24 initiatives and projects and 7 new initiatives by the ´óÏó´«Ã½ partners and stakeholders;
Commitment of theÌýUniversity College Cork, Ireland to take overÌý´óÏó´«Ã½ LLL HubÌýto revitalise the Lifelong Learning Research Network to develop evidence-based policy recommendations in the field of Lifelong Learning;
Agreement to develop aÌýstrategy paper on the ´óÏó´«Ã½ Education Process Strategy and Vision 2030Ìýand to establish a Standing Working Group to support AES in this development process and monitoring of the Strategy and Vision 2030;
Agreement on the establishment ofÌýExpert GroupÌýon the transversal theme of â€˜¶Ù¾±²µ¾±³Ù²¹±ô¾±²õ²¹³Ù¾±´Ç²Ôâ€™Ìýas proposed by Germany;
Commitment ofÌýIndiaÌýto become a new contributing member of theÌý´óÏó´«Ã½-DUO Fellowship ProgrammeÌýand theÌý´óÏó´«Ã½ Work Placement Programme (WPP);
Commitment ofÌýIndiaÌýto hostÌýISOMÌýin Spring 2020,ÌýGermanyÌýto hostÌýSOM1Ìýin autumn 2020 andÌýThailandÌýto hostÌýSOM2Ìý²¹²Ô»åÌý´óÏó´«Ã½ME8Ìýin 2021;
Finally, the Ministers invited all Asian ´óÏó´«Ã½ partner to host the ´óÏó´«Ã½ from 2021 to 2025.
