As learning pathways become more diverse and lifelong learning becomes increasingly important, artificial intelligence can help make learning outcomes and competencies more visible beyond traditional degrees. AI-driven approaches to skill-mapping offer new opportunities to connect higher education with personal career pathways and evolving labour market needs.

Bringing together higher education experts across Asia and Europe, this event will explore three key questions: What can AI contribute to the identification and recognition of competencies? What ethical, societal and governance challenges accompany these developments? And how can higher education institutions, governments and employers make meaningful and responsible use of AI-driven skill mapping?

The online seminar takes place on 7 October 2026, from 9:30 to 11:30 CEST and will be held in English.

Background

In the framework of the Asia-Europe Meeting’s (����ý) Education Process, the DAAD coordinates the ����ý Expert Group Digitalisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).

As part of its ongoing online event series on Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education, the Expert Group on Digitalisation and AI, in cooperation with the ����ý Education Secretariat (AES), has already organised the following online seminars:

• 2023: “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Learning & Teaching in Higher Education”
• 2024: “Best Practices on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education”
• 2025: “AI Skills: Are Universities Preparing Graduates for Labour Market Needs?”

This series aims to explore the evolving role of AI in higher education, share good practices and foster dialogue among ����ý partners.

The target groups are university staff (teachers, administrators, managers), business representatives as well as students; other education stakeholders are equally welcome.
